       Chief of Police

On behalf of all the men and women of York Regional Police, I am pleased and honoured to co-chair this year’s Clubs4cancer Golf Tournament and fundraiser.

This tournament is held each year in remembrance to six wonderful people who lost their lives to cancer. Three of them were members of the York Regional Police family – Deb Young, Staff Sergeant Doug Hall and Detective Constable Doug Nuttall.

Please join us on Monday, September 12, 2011 at the exclusive and prestigious Coppinwood Golf Club.

To date, more than $125,000 has been raised and donated to the Southlake Regional Cancer Centre, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Markham Stouffville Hospital.

I believe very strongly in supporting the fight to cure cancer. Each one of us has been touched by this terrible disease in one way or another and the dedicated people who volunteer their time and donate funds to assist in this effort have my deep admiration. Please join us for a fun day in support of this worthy cause.

The Clubs4cancer golf tournament is in memory of 6 loved ones lost to cancer. In my case, on July 5th, 2007 I lost my best friend and wife of almost 34 years to Colon Cancer. In a note she wrote to me on the evening before her operation 2 years before her death included these words, “Together we can face anything and with your love and support I will fight so hard.” Judy stuck to her words and fought a fight that was inspiring and courageous. For me Clubs4cancer is an extension of this fight she started. I, like so many others dream of a cure to cancer in our lifetime and hope that others do not have to loose their loved ones to this dreaded disease.

Last year’s tournament was our first year and thanks to so many generous people we were able to raise over $35,000 to battle cancer. This year we are hoping to double this and be able to raise money for both Southlake Cancer Centre and Sunnybrook Cancer Centre. Southlake Cancer Centre is a brand new facility starting up this year and Sunnybrook Cancer Centre continues to provide treatment to so many with over 30 years of history. Both hospitals need our assistance in providing the superior care that our loved ones deserve in their time of need.

Please join us for this wonderful day of golf and entertainment, but more importantly help us to fulfill my wife’s dream” together we can face anything and with your love and support we will fight so hard” to beat this disease in our lifetime.
